3 Guaranteed Ways to Recover a Hacked Facebook Account

Recover hacked Facebook account

Has your Facebook account been hacked and you are searching for a way to recover that account because it means a lot to you? Do not panic there is a 75% chance you’ll get your Facebook account back, and that’s a pass mark 🙂

It’s a lot harder to hack and take over a Facebook account these days because Facebook has upped its game to make this a LOT more difficult, however, it’s still achievable.

But here are 4 guaranteed ways to recover your Facebook account if it gets hacked:

Case 1. Only your Facebook password was changed

This is the commonest case of recovering a hacked Facebook account we often encounter. Where an attacker has only changed the password to the Facebook account but has not changed or is yet to change the account’s associated email address and phone number.

In this case, where only your Facebook password was changed, follow these simple steps to recover your account:

  1. Click the Facebook Forgotten Password link.
  2. Find your Facebook account by entering either your Facebook associated email address, phone number, username or your full Facebook names.
  3. Choose how you want to receive the code to reset your password: select email address or phone number option, whatever it is you have set up and can access right away. Click “continue” to proceed.
  4. Enter the Security Code you received and click “continue”.
  5. Choose a new password and click “continue” to get back to your Facebook account and finalize the recovery process.

Case 2. Both the Facebook password & Associated Email address changed

This is the second most common case of recovering a hacked Facebook account we often see. Here an attacker was not only successful in changing the Facebook account password but also managed to change the associated email address.

It’s a little trickier to recover a hacked Facebook account in this case but it is still possible, however.

There might be a slight chance that the attacker omitted or did not bother to change the associated phone number, this is a good thing for us. In recent times, it is difficult to see a Facebook account that does not have a mobile number associated because of the Facebook Messenger App.

If you find out, by following steps 1 & 2 in Case 1 that your phone number is still somehow connected to your Facebook account, then complete steps 3 – 5 to fully recover your Facebook account.

A lot of people are not simply aware that they can recover their hacked Facebook account by using the “secure your account” link in the “Facebook primary email changed” notice sent to them.

That said, this recovery option is only available for a few days after your account has been hacked. So it’s best to take action immediately you notice you have been hacked.

Another thing worth noting here is that for this recovery method to work with a very high success rate, use a device that you have always used to access that Facebook account.

Follow these steps to recover your hacked Facebook account using the Email Changed notification:

1. Login to your Facebook associated email account and locate the email with the subject line “Facebook primary email changed to…

2. Click the “secure your account” link to begin the recovery process.

3. On the next page click “This Was Someone Else”.

4. This would bring you to the Account review page, click “Get Started” to begin.

5. In the following steps, the recovery instructions options or steps may vary slightly depending upon your account and security.

You may be required to verify your Date of Birth or match your Facebook friends photos to their names (You’ll need to identify 5 out of 7 friends photos by matching them with their correct Facebook names.)

Or Facebook may just have you review your account for unusual activities they have detected very recently.

6. After completing step 5 successfully, Facebook would have you choose a new password for your account.

Case 3. Facebook password, associated phone number & Email address all changed

Now, this is the worst case scenario where an attacker is savvy and experienced enough to change everything that could enable you to recover your hacked Facebook account. These include your Facebook password, associated phone number and/or email address, Facebook names, Date of Birth, etc.

But even at that, there is a little glimmer of hope to recover this Facebook account only if you have beforehand set up some security controls which I’ll talk about below.

Many a time, a Facebook account may only have an associated phone number and no email address. So using Case 2 methods as a means of recovery may not be possible here.

If you had taken the precautions to secure your Facebook account using trusted friends authentication it would be a breeze recovering your hacked Facebook account following these steps:

1.  Click the Facebook Forgotten Password link.

2. Find your Facebook account: This time the options to search for your account may be limited to probably only your Facebook username and your full Facebook names (assuming those have not also been changed).

3. Click “No longer have access to these?” at the bottom of the reset password page.

4. On the How can we reach you page? Enter an email address that is not connected to another Facebook account. Click “continue” to proceed.

5. Follow the very straight forward instructions on the Ask your trusted contacts for help page.

6. After you’ve received all 3 codes from your trusted friends, click “continue” to get back into your account. That’s all.

If you didn’t set up the trusted contacts feature, follow these steps to recover your account:

  1. Click the Facebook Forgotten Password link.

2. Find your Facebook account: This time the options to search for your account may be limited to probably only your Facebook username and your full Facebook names (assuming those have not also been changed).

3. Click “No longer have access to these?” at the bottom of the reset password page.

4. Facebook will ask you to Try to log in again, click “I cannot access my email account”.

5. On the How can we reach you page? Enter an email address that is not connected to another Facebook account. Click “continue” to proceed.

6. In the next step, Facebook will ask you Where was your ID issued? Select your country and “continue”.

7. On the I Can’t Log in form, enter your full name and upload a copy of your ID. You can learn more on the types of ID you can submit on this same page, so check out the links.

8. After submitting the form wait for Facebook to review your application after which you’ll be contacted on the email address you provided in step 5 if successful.

Go ahead and enjoy your Facebook account once more, but it’s best you learn the top 4 settings to secure your Facebook account from hackers. This post will do you a lot of good going forward.

Lastly, be sure I will keep this guide updated whenever there is a new guaranteed way to recover a hacked Facebook account. So do check back from time to time.

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what
all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours
would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100% positive.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.
